FAQ - Tips

Even though Dragon Warrior 4 does not go along with the storylines of the first three, meaning no tales of Erdrick, it is still a great game to have in your collection. Check our Game Genie Codes page for various codes, but the most important code to those who were frustrated over not being able to control their party members in battle starting with chapter 5 is: YYEXVTGE. That code has surely brought many discouraged warriors back in action. To start Dragon Warrior 4, you will pick a name for your hero that will not be used until chapter 5. You first play chapters 1 through 4 as your other party members, which gives you a better understanding of their backgrounds and how they came to be. Then starting with Chapter 5 you become the hero whose name you choose at the beginning of your quest. The hero will eventually meet up and recruit all of the other members you played as in chapters 1 through 4. Always we recommend choosing "fast" as your message speed for the game. Below is a description of each chapter and what you will be doing.

Chapter 1: The Royal Soldiers

Chapter 1 has you playing the warrior Ragnar, who has taken on the task of finding the culprit behind the mysterious abductions of children near Burland. Ragnar is a lone warrior who never lets the King of Burland down, which is why he was chosen for this quest. You will play as Ragnar only for this chapter, but along the way Ragner meets a friendly Healer by the name of Healie, who desires to serve the good of mankind. Healie will help heal you in battle while you take on the most vicious creatures, and search for the evil behind the missing children.

Chapter 2: Alena's Adventure

In chapter 2 you play as the Princess of Santeem, Alena. Now Alena has lived a sheltered life by the King of Santeem. he feels that keeping her inside the castle and away from harm is what it best for a young princess. However Alena's adventurous side has lured her out of the castle, where she starts a quest to prove she is a might warrior. She teams with her friends Brey and Cristo, and the three of them set forth to a far away land where Alena shall enter a tournament to prove who is the mightiest warrior.

Chapter 3: Taloon the Arms Merchant

This is a much different adventure as you play the role of Taloon, a merchant. In this chapter your goal is not to defeat some evil monster, or a might warrior. Instead your goal is to make money. Taloon works at a weapon shop in the town of Lakanabe, however he desires for a shop of his own. He goes further south in search of treasure, and along the way he discovers other business propositions that he cannot refuse. Taloon is very strong in battle, but not strong enough to go alone into caverns. So he can rent the services of a mighty soldier named Strom, and a user of magic named Laurent. The two will gladly join your party, but for a price.

Chapter 4: The Sisters of Monbaraba

In this chapter you play Nara and Mara, two sisters who are about to begin a quest to discover the cause of their father Edgar, a renowned alchemist's death. Nara is a student of magic and fortune telling, and this has made her quite strong in battle. Nara is a dancer who yearns to be a warrior like her sister, but has much to learn in order to do you. The two of you eventually meet up with Orin, the mightiest warrior around. He has decided to aid the both of you as you travel to learn the secret of your father's mysterious death.

Chapter 5: The Chosen Ones

In chapter five you finally play the hero whose name you selected at the beginning of the game. The hero was growing up in a remote village, hidden from the doers of evil. However the monsters learn that the hero is strong enough to one day defeat their cause, they immediately set out to destroy the young one while they still have a chance. The entire village risks their own lives to protect and save you. After their demise, and the destruction of what you once called your home, you set off on the longest, largest quest known to man. A lengthy journey like this requires the aid of friends, and you will have many who are willing to do so. You will eventually meet up with all of the characters from chapters 1 through 4. Each of them will join your army, the largest ever built. Together all of you have one goal in mind, to destroy the evil Necrosaro, the leader of all that is evil.
